According to a 2015 study by the Environmental Research and Education Foundation, recycling has positive effect in the US.
The number of recycling plants has nearly doubled and is higher than estimates by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. At the same time, there is a modest reduction in the number of landfills. Forty-three states have some sort of recycling or diversionary goal. The three leaders in the number of recycling centers are the states of California, Missouri, and Washington.
